This is a big wine made for long aging and thoughtful drinking. Brunellos tend to offer aromas of berries or plum with some truffles or earth. Their taste generally contain plums, vanilla, cedar, earth and licorice. They have velvety tannins balanced by some acidity. These are big wines which are generally enjoyed with a meal.

Brunellos are a big wine in search of a meal with big flavors – game, red meat, flavorful hard cheeses, and mushrooms. When you’ve got a meal with similar characteristics, but perhaps the flavors aren’t quite so big or your wallet not so loose, consider a Rosso di Montalcino instead. It is made from the same Sangiovese grapes, but is aged less and spends less time in contact with wood.
